A personal Journey

Wallington Park Creamery

Wallington Park has now applied for planning to expand its sidings. This will necessitate the acquisition of a new piece of land and a change of pointwork. There is to be a creamery built in private sidings that utilises the milk and products from the surrounding farmlands owned by Wallington Manor. The owner of Wallington Manor, Major Frederick Harringston has given his son Giles Harringston the job of managing the creamery. Giles has taken the bit between his teeth and is interviewing prospective employees from the town of Wallington Park and so far has appointed:

Emily Standsworth – young girl – milk churn storage and cheese mistress and a local farmers’ daughter

Horace Grimes – experienced motor mechanic for engineering. will be keeping the machinery turning, but in shifts.

Gerald Hooper – assistant manager to Giles ex bank clerk with substantial financial experience.

Jonathan Munche – labourer and ex farm worker knows the surrounding countryside like the back of his hand and will drive the lorry to and from local farms collecting milk.

Betty Dunsford – milk storage and cheese manager and a local farmers’ daughter

Jonas Pikelle – labourer

Marion Shttleworth – assistant milk manager ex shop keepers’ daughter and based in the office.

Giles is well liked (particularly by the younger ladies of the town) and therefore there was no shortage of applicants for the vacant posts. More interviews are due to take place shortly.

Milk and cream will be brought in by road to the creamery where it will be processed and transferred to tanks and churns for despatch. Wallington Park Cheddar will be made here as well and stored and transported to nearby towns for sale in the local shops. This will be a small concern to start with and something that Giles has entrusted Emily and Betty to organise, closely overseen by himself. Betty has been making cheese on a local farm for a couple of years now and has assured Giles that with her knowledge and Emilys’ ability to learn quickly they will make it into the success that Giles knows it will become.

More interviews have just concluded and Giles is pleased to inform us all that the following appointments have been made:

Gabriel and Annette Spurnside: two farm girls with extensive milk experience on their fathers farm. They will be seeing to deliveries by road.

George and Harry Muffatt the twins who worked in the local main dealers garage as nechanics for some years. Will work on the steriliser and with Horace to provide 24hr cover of the processes.

Wensford Spook foreman at the creamery lately of a dairy near Bristol. Wensford will be in the office and detailed to look after goings on in the yard.

Nellie Floppit just left school and so will be general dogs body bless her!
